About the Joburg Clivia Club
The Joburg Clivia Club started off as the Metro Clivia Interest Group affiliated to the Northern Clivia Club. The Joburg Clivia Club was formed in May 2005 with the first Annual General Meeting taking place in February 2006.
The first meetings of the Metro Clivia Interest Group were held at the homes of various enthusiasts. Once the Joburg Clivia Club was formed, the venue for the meetings changed to Garden World where we still have our monthly meetings.
The Metro Interest Group held their first annual clivia show in September 2001 at the Marist Brothers’ College in Rivonia Road, Sandton. The annual shows in 2002 and 2003 were held in the Sisulu Hall in Randburg. In 2004 we held our first show at the Garden World Nursery, in the Craft market. The last three shows, that is the 2005, 2006 and 2007 shows were held within the nursery, at Garden World on Beyers Naude Drive, Muldersdrift.
The monthly meetings are held on a Saturday afternoon at 14h00. The format of the meetings is to introduce new members and follow on with any interesting plants brought to the meetings by members and then continue with the presentation for the afternoon.
The programme for the year starts in February with the Annual General Meeting, followed by a talk. Monthly meetings then take place until the show in September. We then have the prize giving in October followed by a talk.
